The Euro Info Centre (EIC) Thessaloniki of the Federation of Industries of
Northern Greece (FING), was responsible for the implementation of the EU
Programme Border Regions Development and Economic Reinforcing
(BO.R.D.E.R) during the period 2003-2004, which was co-financed by the
Enlargement Directorate General, and aimed at promoting business
co-operation between enterprises from bordering regions of EU member
states and accession countries.
Within the framework of this programme, the EIC Thessaloniki, in
collaboration with the EIC of the Chamber of Commerce of the Veneto
Region, organised 2 business matchmaking events entitled: “Doing
Business Without Borders.”
On 22th -26th November 2003 the first “Doing Business Without
Borders” matchmaking event took place in Vicenza Italy. The event was a
great success, with a total of 470 participating companies and 2.500 b2b
meetings. The Greek delegation consisted of 23 companies and 30
delegates in total. More specifically, the Greek delegation was made up
of the following enterprises: ADAM’S SHOES, ANOPSIS, ARROW TECHNOLOGIES
SA, ARCHETIPO, ARTION, DEPAL SA, EXTREME, GROUP3 SA,MLS LASERLOCK
INTERNATIONAL INC, POWER ELECTRONICS, SPIRIT SA & INNOVIS SA, VAGIONA
STYLIANI, VASSARAS SA, GENIKI TROFIMON SA – BARBA STATHIS, EURIMAC SA,
ELENI KARAGKIOZI & CO, INA SA, ITIMOUDIS Á. SA, KOTSARIDIS ×. SA,
KOUVENTA OLGA “KOUVENTAS,” ÊÕÊÅ HELLAS SA, ×. VOUKALIS – F. VOUKALI,
GRIVAS SA.
On 17th & 18th May 2004 the second “Doing Business Without Borders”
matchmaking event took place in Thessaloniki in the I.Vellidis Congress
Centre of HELEXPO. The event was a notable success, with a total of 495
SMEs from the 9 partner countries (Greece, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg,
Spain, Slovakia, Netherlands, Bulgaria and Romania). Over 2.700 b2b
meetings were conducted.
During this event, various parallel conference sessions were held with
distinguished Greek and foreign speakers from the business and wider
economic arena of both Greece and the rest of Europe. More specifically,
a session entitled: “EU Enlargement: Challenges & Opportunities” took
place on the first day of the business conference and another session
entitled: “Business Challenges in an Enlarged EU: the real business
experience” took place on the second day of the event.
In addition, a special website was created within the framework of the
BORDER Programme: www.eu-border.net
The Final Conference was held on 11th October 2004 in Venice at which 4
Greek enterprises were awarded for their successful conclusion of
business co-operation agreements as a result of their participation in
the aforementioned “Doing Business Without Borders” matchmaking events.
The prize-winning Greek companies were: VARVARESSOS SA, KYKE HELLAS SA,
INTERWORKS SA, and ALPHAMETAL.
